Skymind is Now Pathmind

December 17, 2019

Today is a turning point for Skymind and our community of supporters:

Skymind is now Pathmind.

We started the company in late 2014 with the belief that AI would change almost every aspect of business. It is a world-shaking technology. Five years later, we believe that even more strongly, and our experience supporting tens of thousands of users of open-source AI software has shown us where AI can give businesses the most leverage.

We are on a mission to help businesses make better strategic decisions by applying AI to data. We introduced the Pathmind product this year to help operations analysts, industrial engineers, simulation modelers and business leaders surface better paths of action through complexity.

Our new name Pathmind was inspired by what we saw our users doing with reinforcement learning. They were seeking clarity amid complexity. They were simulating hard and expensive business decisions, and asking themselves a fundamental question: “What should I do?” They were seeking insight in a cloud of possible futures.

Pathmind gives businesses a powerful search engine for decision making, a way of automating trial and error on a massive scale in complex business simulations. Reinforcement learning has claimed victory against world-champion teams in highly complex video games such as StarCraft II and Dota 2. Now it is being applied to increasingly complex and realistic virtual environments with a clear business ROI, such as maximizing the flow of freight through a supply chain, or goods produced by a factory, or customers served by a call center. Pathmind takes businesses from complexity to clarity with AI.

This is just the beginning. We exist to help our users see more clearly into their hardest problems, and act more intelligently. Helping people make smarter decisions in uncertain times is what gets us out of bed in the morning. Soon we’ll add more ways for them to leverage AI within simulations, to give them even better decision support.

Please reach out if you have any questions for us. We’d love to hear from you.

Yours truly,

Chris Pathmind CEO

P.S. If you’re excited about helping people make better strategic decisions using AI, please reach out. We’re hiring.
